I recently had my front tyres changed after which the car has never quite been the same.  The change was done at a big national company and it’s unbelievable that they can not actually do what they are paid to do.

I drove the car home (got the wheels changed it Wales, but actually live in London) and the car had awful vibrations through the steering wheel at motorway speeds and the steering wheel just wouldn’t sit straight. 

 

I took it to a more specialist tyre company who rebalanced the tyres (apperently they were 80g out) and did the alignment. However, even after the alignment was done the steering wheel still wouldn’t sit correctly. Went back they made some slight adjustments and we tried again. Still no luck, car has a definite pull to the right and the steering wheel wants to sit off centre (but more to the left). 

It has been back again and I have got the print out from the check. Front wheels are all in the green as is the right rear. However, the left rear is massively out. They tell me that the rear tyres can not be adjusted as they are fixed.  They reckon it is likely a manufacturing fault

1)Could this be causing the issue (it’s certainly only more pronounced since I had the wheels changed)

2) has anyone else had an alignment check and how were the rears?

4 wheel alignment checks are done when an issue is suspected or there is kerbing etc damage. I don't think many will be able to help with own results. Steering wheel off centre is usually just as a result after tracking has been adjusted more one side than the other, It isn't a problem in itself as the steering wheel simply self centres. 

However given the results on the rear end that goes out the window. No there isn't an adjustment as such at the rear as on the fronts but it is possible the rear axle beam has moved or even always been fitted "skewif". There may be enough play in the fitment to get better alignment. Why does it feel different after new tyres?, well cars usually feel much lighter in steering after nice even tread tyres are fitted, maybe it's just allowing you to feel what was already present, can't see anything else being done at the time that would cause the problem.

I think you will need further investigation at the garage rather than tyre depot. Did you have the car new?

My guess is there is some piece of junk left stuck to the rims or the hub, which misalignes the wheel. The other options is really unbelievable, but possible - they made something wrong - hit the car or something like that...

Hi YES do not rule out manufacturing issues lots of us who had a shakee ass megane had problems with rear axle alignment ours did only  6000 miles on rear tyres dealer noticed excessive wear to inner half only at 3000 miles  fronts did 22,000  after much arguing by dealer renault  paid for new rear axle after that it did about 12,000 miles on rear so while not good a lot better as for the junk theory think this would make wheel 

now that said rear may have hit something  hard a kerb- pot hole whatever  your problem maybe convincing renault  it is not your fault 

not sure about junk on hub as this would make wheel wobble and i would think you would notice the vibration from this 

as for steering wheel not being in centre  this is just a matter of adjusting  track rod ends correctly this does take a while sometimes and if you are not happy take it back and let them have another go , now when you say car is pulling do you mean if you let go of steering wheel it drives to one side or if you hold wheel in centre it drives to one side in which case car is probably ok

Thanks for all the advice guys.  

 

The car car was new when I bought it and guess those tyres could have grooved into the way the car was pulling hence me never actually noticing it.  It was just strange that literally driving out of the original tyre depot I noticed that the steering wheel was no longer centre. Only reason for not going back then was that I was away from home and had a meeting I had to attend (so thought I would sort it when I got home). It was on the drive back at the higher speed that I notIced the vibrations. They are the 19inch (just in case it makes any difference).

 

JC; the car has been back three times and the last time they fixed the steering wheel with some device (so it couldn’t move) and then adjusted the rods. With regard to the pulling. If I hold it centre it drifts massively right. I appreciate the road had some help in that but I drove another Kadjar a few weeks back and was no where near as bad.

its going in on Tuesday for some other work and so I am going to leave it with them till we get a sensible solution/answer

That's a fair point, it's not unusual for alloy wheels to corrode around the centre boss and to have to be whacked to break the grip. Modern super wide and dia wheels are very fragile, they have to keep the weight down.

If this has had 4 wheel alignment done then surely they would have rotated the wheels if any error was found, it's standard practice. The other point I forgot to mention was that because of the fragiliy of the rims you are just as likely to bend a rim as you are to knock the tracking out these day, very easily done on potholes or just sliding sideways on ice/snow into a kerb, just coming out of winter as we are. The old trick was, still is even at home, to jack each wheel up and spin up the wheels checking for runout
