Sorry for a really lame question but I have checked the manual and it is telling me to look in the maintenance document which I cannot find but what oil should I put in my 1.5dci?

I have a feeling it was 5w - 30 but I could be wrong. I  have some 10w 40 in the garage would it be ok to use this?

Thanks

Not lame at all, it's the age old issue of Renault not supplying a maintenance schedule even though the manual refers you to it.

I would play safe and use the exact same oil as Renault supply as the car will still be under warranty. Yes of course you can use any correct spec oil but don't forget its not just the viscosity, it has to be low ash spec for DPF equipped cars hence I'd go with the Elf product as per the 1ltr bottle Renault supply with the car,it's competitive with with independants if you buy online.

ACEA C4 level C3 in 5w30

Ask a Renault dealer for a print off of the service schedule, some on here got 1 with the manual, most didn't and had to ask. Poor show from Renault really as you are clueless without.

The text on the oil bottle should (must) contain the following, it shows the correct low ash spec:

Renault RN0720

The Vehicle Maintenance Tab on the "My Renault" App [Android] gives details of fluids needed. Example: my 1.2L petrol Kadjar has 4.60 L of "RN 0710"  specified, 10W40 above minus 20, 5W40 above minus 25, 0W40 above minus 30 C. There's also the specs of Brake Fluid and Coolant.

so would it be ok to add 5w40 to my 1.5 dci? I'vr got loads of it in the garage!

Where did you get that impression?

Do those oil cans say RN0720 on them?
If not, just forget that thought.

Sorry, I never did get that impression, it was just a thought really! Will check to see what they say though.

It's such a simple sing that can have devastating results if the engine blows and Renault can show the oil spec is wrong. Stick with what they supplied until the warranty runs out at least. I went for this, given free postage it ain't bad
